House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got revenge against one of her main detractors by blocking New York Rep. Kathleen Rice from winning a seat on the prestigious House Judiciary Committee, Politico reported on Wednesday.

The snub came despite an all-out attempt from the New York delegation to win a spot on the panel for Rice, who is a former prosecutor.

Pelosi instead lobbied for others to join the committee over Rice, leaving the third-term Democrat off a list of her preferred members, according to several sources.

The move by Pelosi was viewed as payback after Rice tried to stop her from becoming speaker again.

“She was boxed out and the result was cooked before we walked in the room,” a source said. “If you went by seniority then yes [she would have got the position]. But that’s not what happened. Scores being settled was first priority.”

The New York delegation was already upset that another of their members, freshman Rep. Anthony Brindisi, was blocked from getting on the Armed Services Committee earlier in the week.

Brindisi had also opposed Pelosi’s candidacy for speaker.

Pelosi's blocking of her detractors came despite a promise, as part of an agreement that won her the final votes to become speaker, that she would not seek to retaliate against those trying to defeat her, according to Politico.

In total, nine Democrats will join the Judiciary Committee, which is expected to facilitate the numerous investigations Democrats are expected to launch into President Donald Trump.
