Pelosi: 'If the Goods Are There, You Must Impeach'

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is dismissing suggestions the House move to censure President Donald Trump, The Hill is reporting.

"I think censure is just a way out," Pelosi said.

Her comments came Wednesday during an event hosted by The Christian Science Monitor.

"If you're going to go, you've got to go," she said. "If the goods are there, you must impeach. And censure is nice, but it is not commensurate with the violations of the Constitution — should we decide that's the way to go. That's my view."

She implied a Trump censure would not be strong enough in light of the allegations facing Trump, The Hill noted.

"That's a day at the beach for the president — or at his golf club or wherever he goes to get that complexion," Pelosi said.

Censuring Trump would essentially be a public reprimand of the president. Unlike impeachment, it does not carry a threat of removal from office.

Several Democratic House members have raised the possibility of censure, including Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., The Hill noted. The Congressional Black Caucus has been pushing for a censure resolution. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., floated the idea after the release of the Mueller's report.
