Special counsel Robert Mueller's team has been looking into a meeting that took place in 2017 between President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman and the president of Ecuador, CNN reports.

Paul Manafort met with President Lenín Moreno in Ecuador’s capital city, Quito, in 2017. The Associated Press reported in November of that year that Moreno said he met with Manafort and a group of Chinese businessmen who were looking to privatize Ecuador’s national power company.

Court documents in Manafort’s legal case show that he traveled to Ecuador with a phone registered under an assumed name and used one of three U.S. passports in his possession.

The Guardian reported on Tuesday that Manafort met with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for several years, prior to joining the Trump campaign. Assange’s counsel in the UK denied the report, as did WikiLeaks.

Although Manafort pleaded guilty to multiple charges in September, Mueller’s office recently announced that the former Trump campaign chairman broke the terms of his agreement by lying to them and the FBI “on a variety of subject matters,” according to ABC News.
