Readers of a military news outlet overwhelmingly reject President Donald Trump's call for a big military parade, an informal poll showed.
Military Times reported its survey was launched Wednesday following reports Trump — inspired by the Bastille Day parade he saw while visiting France in 2017 — wanted a parade to showcase military might, and the Pentagon was working on options.
As of Thursday afternoon, more than 51,000 readers had responded, with 89 percent saying to the idea: "No, it's a waste of money and troops are too busy" — and 11 percent responding: "Yes, it's a great opportunity to show off U.S. military might."
The service members are not the only ones who have their doubts about a flashy military display: the District of Columbia's local government is already balking at the prospect of picking up the tab for a parade in the nation's capital.
