Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, said Tuesday he is concerned about Iran's escalating actions in the Middle East, including their acts in several countries, and he believes Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would not have pointed at Iran in connection with attacks on Saudi oil fields without the access he has to the "highest levels of intelligence."
"It's been outgoing, where Saudi Arabia has seen other attacks and attacks on tankers, and now this large attack on their oil supply," Turner told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "It's not just the fact that Iraq is a destabilizing force in the area, but they are continuing to escalate activity."
He said he finds it interesting Saudi Arabia is moving to join in the investigation into the attacks, but commented the sophisticated nature of the incidents are such that "individual groups of terrorist organizations are not able to undertake without Iran's support."
Meanwhile, Turner said he thinks President Donald Trump is correct to say his actions concerning Iran will be coordinated and he is looking to Saudi Arabia about how the United States will proceed.
Turner on Tuesday also commented about Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke's comments about taking assault-style rifles away from citizens.
"I think what Beto says is as nuts as it looks," Turner, who represents Dayton, Ohio, the site of a deadly weekend shooting in August, commented. "We don't want to criminalize average citizens on law-abiding citizens but they are actions that need to be taken. In the Dayton, Ohio, incident, the tragedy was nine people died and 27 people were injured, and thank God for the police who took very quick action and killed the mass shooter in 22 seconds. That shooter had passed a background check. Background checks are not the panacea of fixing everything."
