Michael Cohen has resigned as deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee's finance committee, ABC News is reporting.
An email from Cohen to RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, obtained by ABC, cites the ongoing investigation into the former personal lawyer for President Donald Trump.
"This important role requires the full time attention and dedication of each member. Given the ongoing Mueller and SDNY investigations, that simply is impossible for me to do," Cohen wrote to McDaniel.
Cohen's resignation comes a day after a change in his legal team and, apparently, strategy; Cohen hired Guy Petrillo amid reports that he's planning to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller's probe.
Oddly, Cohen also weighed in on the Trump administration's practice of separating families at the border in his email to McDaniel, ABC reports.
"As the son of a Polish holocaust survivor, the images and sounds of this family separation policy is heart wrenching," ABC quoted Cohen's email. "While I strongly support measures that will secure our porous borders, children should never be used as bargaining chips."
