Donald Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen is fighting back in court against some of the information contained in private banking records made public Tuesday, CNN reported.
According to CNN, the filing was the Cohen team's first response to a data dump of Cohen's private bank records by Michael Avenatti, a lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels — and argue if those records were obtained illegally, it should disqualify Avenatti from representing the adult film actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.
"This document is concerning for a number of reasons, including the number of blatantly incorrect statements it contains," Cohen attorney Stephen Ryan wrote in a 24-page complaint letter to a federal judge, NBC News reported.
In the filing, Cohen's lawyers accuse Avenatti of circulating false information by including the private bank records from other people named Michael Cohen who are not Trump's personal attorney, CNN reported.
For example, the data dump included information from a Michael Cohen who was a Canadian in Tanzania and another Michael Cohen who is a resident in Israel.
However, lawyers for Cohen also acknowledged some of the information Avenatti circulated about Cohen on Tuesday is correct, CNN noted.
Avenatti disputed the filing in a series of tweets Wednesday evening, calling the submission "baseless, improper, and sanctionable."
