Attorney Michael Avenatti is getting roasted on social media in the wake of his arrest on multiple federal charges, including trying to extort Nike for millions of dollars.
Avenatti, a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, was arrested Monday around 1 p.m., a short time after he teased a press conference about Nike Tuesday morning. He was taken into custody in New York, prosecutors said.
Here's a sampling of tweets reacting to the news about Avenatti, who gained notoriety for representing porn star Stormy Daniels — the recipient of a hush payment for not discussing an alleged affair she had with Trump several years before he took office:
John Cardillo of Newsmax TV:
".@MichaelAvenatti tried to extort or frame Nike, Trump, and Kavanaugh. How many others has he done this to?"
Brent Bozell, Media Research Center founder:
"CNN put Michael Avenatti on the air SEVENTY-FOUR TIMES over a two-month period to savage Donald Trump. Trump has been vindicated completely in the Russia collusion charade. Avenatti was just charged with extortion. CNN is having a very, very bad day."
Caleb Hull of Targeted Victory:
"Just going to leave this deleted tweet of CNN hosts partying with @MichaelAvenatti here…"
Benny Johnson of Turning Point USA:
"Let me see if I have this timeline correct:
"1. Mueller Report drops
"2. Trump exonerated on all charges
"3. Avenatti arrested
"4. For committing the *exact same federal crimes* he was accusing Trump of committing
"BONUS: Stormy still has to pay 300K in Trump legal fees
"Yes? ðŸ˜"
Buck Sexton, radio host:
"It's official: Avenatti beats out Michael Cohen for worst lawyer in America"
Laura Ingraham, Fox News host:
"It's Lent but it feels like Christmas. Avenatti charged. Trump cleared."
Donald Trump Jr.:
"Good news for my friend @MichaelAvenatti, if you plead fast enough, you might just get to share a cell with Michael Cohen! #basta"
Steven Crowder of BlazeTV:
"And now Avenatti? #MondayMotivaton never felt so good."
Corey Lewandowski, former Trump campaign manager:
"Michael Avenatti was just arrested. Does this mean he won't be on Cable News Tonight?"
Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA:
"Lovely irony: Michael Avenatti just got indicted the Monday after Trump didn't"
Brad Parscale, Trump's 2020 campaign manager:
"Wow. What an amazing last 48 hours. I can't stop watching. 😳"
Ryan Fournier, chairman of Students For Trump:
"Michael Avenatti is being charged for attempting to extort $25 million dollars from Nike.
"Wasn't this guy the star lawyer of the Democratic Party? 🤣"
Ben Shapiro, conservative commentator:
"Trump chanting 'Lock Him Up!' about Avenatti at rallies is going to be amazing"
