CNN has severed ties with Mark Geragos, the apparent co-conspirator in an alleged scheme to extort millions of dollars from Nike.
Attorney Michael Avenatti, who notoriously represented porn star Stormy Daniels, was arrested and charged Monday with multiple federal crimes related to the alleged scheme. It was reported Monday afternoon that Avenatti's partner in the effort was Geragos, another lawyer who was a paid legal analyst to CNN.
The network soon dropped Geragos from its roster.
"Mark Geragos is no longer CNN contributor," a CNN spokesperson told Mediaite.
As CNN reported, prosecutors have not charged Geragos with any crimes. But they accused Avenatti of trying to extort up to $25 million from Nike. He was arrested less than an hour after posting a tweet that teased a Tuesday morning press conference about the sports apparel company.
Avenatti himself appeared on CNN on a near-regular basis for months to discuss a lawsuit he had filed against President Donald Trump on behalf of Daniels. He no longer represents her, and judges have dismissed that lawsuit plus an additional one related to a hush payment the Trump camp made to Daniels during the 2016 campaign.
Geragos has previously represented Michael Jackson, actor Jussie Smollett, and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
