A Mexican senator is warning Carrier's business will suffer by not moving its Indiana plant to her state of Nuevo Leon, The Hill reported.

"The implications are very serious, not only for Nuevo Leon, but for Carrier," Sen. Marcella Guerra told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

"The one who is going to suffer from this is the company . . . because their products are going to be more expensive," she said. "I understand the fight, because it is same fight all we politicians carry out."

Meanwhile, the mayor of Santa Catarina, a suburb of Monterey where Carrier's plant is located, said he has received no formal notification from the company of a change of plans.

The mayor of a Monterey suburb where the Carrier plant is located, meanwhile, said Wednesday he has not heard from its representatives.

"In fact, we are working normally with them," Mayor Hector Castillo said.

Carrier announced this week it will keep more than 1,000 jobs in Indiana after talking to President-elect Donald Trump, who had vowed to punish Carrier and other companies that moved American jobs out of the country where wages are lower.
