U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, an Oregon Democrat, endorsed Bernie Sanders on Wednesday for the party's presidential nomination.
"This really is all about the person who has the boldest, most fierce vision on the biggest issues facing America and the world," including trade, Merkley said in an MSNBC interview.
He first revealed his support for Sanders in an opinion piece published Wednesday by The New York Times.
Merkley is the first and so far only U.S. Senator to throw his support behind Sanders, a U.S. Senator from Vermont.
