Even if President Donald Trump is impeached, he'll come out as a winner, White House Director of Strategic Communications Mercedes Schlapp said Monday.
"If the Democrats want to keep their impeachment talk, where we know there is no collusion, where we have been transparent and cooperative in the process, is a losing strategy for them," Schlapp told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
Americans want Trump and Democrats to cooperate, she added, but if Democrats still want to use impeachment "as their political maneuver . . . they will lose."
Schlapp also discussed the ongoing partial government shutdown, now in its third week, noting the Trump administration has provided Democrats with a list they requested, showing the needs of the border patrol.
The administration is not only seeking money for the border wall, Schlapp said, but money for judges to deal with backlogs of cases seen after the surge of migrants at the border.
"What's so ironic is the Democrats and leadership mentioned in the meeting last week with the president that they want to secure the border, yet they failed to define what border security means," she said. "We need to insure that there is a wall at the border. They get stuck on a concrete wall. The president is talking about steel and providing steel barriers that are very effective at the wall and basically answering to the needs of our border patrol agents."
Democrats, though, are using delay tactics, while the Trump administration wants to fully fund the federal government, Schlapp added.
