President Donald Trump tweeted a defense Thursday of first lady Melania Trump for wearing a coat with controversial phrase on the back as she visited illegal immigrant children at a detention center in Texas.

Melania Trump donned the $39 Zara jacket to visit the Upbringing New Hope Children's Shelter in McAllen, Texas, for a personal look at the situation there.

Journalists immediately bashed the first lady for the coat's message, calling it insensitive in light of her visiting detained children.

But her spokeswoman later said Melania Trump was not sending any message with her wardrobe choice.

"It's a jacket," Stephanie Grisham said in a statement. "There was no hidden message.

"After [Thursday's] important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe."

She later took to Twitter:

But President Trump's tweet appeared to counter Grisham's comments.

Upon arriving in Texas, Melania Trump told reporters "I'm looking forward to meeting the children."

She removed the jacket before Air Force One landed, according to news reports.
