Sen. John McCain's daughter Meghan responded with a tweet after hearing one of President Donald Trump's supporters at his rally in Phoenix reportedly shouted at protesters that the senator "needs to die now."
Sen. McCain last week completed his first round off radiation and chemotherapy for glioblastoma after a brain tumor was discovered during surgery to remain a blood clot above his eye, the New York Daily News reported.
At the rally, Trump criticized McCain and Arizona's other senator, Jeff Flake, both Republicans, despite urging from national GOP figures not to do so, CNN reported. The two Arizona senators did not attend the rally.
Trump said "will not mention any names," but added that they were "one vote" short on a Republican bill to overhaul parts of Obamacare. McCain was one of three Republican senators to vote against the bill.
The president then shifted to Flake, saying "And nobody wants me to mention your other senator, who's weak on the border, weak on crime. Nobody knows who the hell he is!"
