Meghan Markle is being slammed for living like an "A-list Hollywood star" after holding a baby shower that was "in poor taste." The attack on Prince Harry’s new wife was made by royal expert Anna Pasternak, author of several books about the royal family, on Yahoo UK's "The Royal Box."
"I think what Meghan has got to realize is that she cannot live life in the royal family like an A-list Hollywood star and that within the monarchy it demands a very different set of behaviors," Pasternak said, Fox News reported. "She doesn't understand that she cannot be this international star on this global stage, that is the Queen, then Charles, then William and Kate — they have to be the stars that's what ensures continuity in the monarchy."
According to Pasternak, a prime example was Markle's baby shower in New York last month, which was attended by the likes of Serena Williams, Gayle King and Amal Clooney. According to Yahoo, the event held at The Mark hotel’s Penthouse Suite set guests back thousands per night. Markle was also reportedly flown to and from the U.S. in a private jet.
"The country is in a state of extreme anxiety and flux, and many people are suffering financially," Pasternak said. "You can’t have it both ways, I think you cannot on the one hand, say to the people, 'save the planet,' and then be revving up a massive carbon footprint going for a lavish baby shower in New York, I don’t think it looks good and I don’t think it’s appropriate."
The royal expert further expressed concerns over Markle's marriage to Prince Harry, which was "heading for a tricky situation," The Mirror reported.
"Very little has changed in the last eight years in terms of the power of courtiers," Pasternak said. "What I've discovered in my research for my book on Wallis Simpson and Princess Diana is that the one goal of the monarchy, the ultimate goal, is survival and for that the spotlight has to be on the monarch or the heir apparent."
