The names and information of 80,000 voters in Maryland will not appear correctly in the state's voter rolls, which are known as poll books, for its Tuesday primary elections, The Baltimore Sun reported.

If all 80,000 show up to vote, they must cast provisional ballots, which will not be counted until July 5, according to officials.

"No one gets turned away," said deputy state elections administrator Nikki Charlson, The Baltimore Sun reported. "We're used to this process. It's been in place. It works. The system is prepared for this and is able to absorb it," Charlson added.

The software glitch that allegedly caused the mistake in Maryland happened before election officials had access to the data, back in April 2017 when Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration installed new software that failed to transfer data of voters who updated their registration address or party affiliation to the voter database, The Sun reported.

Gov. Larry Hogan ordered an investigation into what went wrong. Democratic legislative leaders called on Christine Nizer, administrator of the Motor Vehicle Administration, to resign over the issue.

Clarence M. Mitchell IV, a former state lawmaker who hosts a radio show on Maryland's WBAL, said the timing of the news is "terrible."

"It does ruin people's confidence in the voting process," said Mitchell, The Sun reported.

A random printing error also affected people on voter rolls earlier in June, this time in California, as more than 118,000 voters were left off rolls in Los Angeles County.
