Sen. Blackburn to Newsmax TV: Biden Bypassing Congress With Exec Orders

Tuesday, 26 January 2021 03:06 PM EST

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., on Tuesday blasted President Joe Biden for "supercharging executive orders," saying the tactic is a way to bypass Congress.

In an interview on Newsmax TV's "John Bachman Now," Blackburn vowed that lawmakers on Capitol Hill will push back.

"The Biden administration is supercharging executive orders and circumventing Congress," she lamented, adding, "That is not sitting well" with lawmakers.

"Joe Biden voted for a border wall" when he himself was in Congress, she said. "Now he's ending a border wall" with an executive order.

"Congress is very uncomfortable [that Biden has signed] more executive orders than any other president in history," she said.

According to Blackburn, two bills that she has introduced will fight to take back control on immigration executive orders in particular.

"These are issues that are reserved to Congress," she said, adding the Biden administration "does not have the power to do that."

"We're going to turn around and take legislative action," she vowed, noting she's filed two bills as part of that fight, one to ban "birth tourism" and the other to restrict funds "to cities that give driver licenses to illegal immigrants and to sanctuary cities."

Blackburn also praised the win by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to protect the 60-vote legislative filibuster, calling it a victory for "the American people … constitutionality … and the rule of law."

"The American people want robust, respectful debate," she said.

"It's important that each chamber in Congress should remember this is all about the people. And the people want something done in Washington."
