Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., saying President Joe Biden must reverse course on the policy for the southern border, blasted him for turning America from a "land of peace and prosperity into a land of chaos and fear."
Rubio made his comments in a column posted by the Washington Examiner on Thursday.
"Imagine living in a country where drug smugglers and human traffickers brazenly violate the law," Rubio said. "Where cartels use military tactics to overwhelm law enforcement. Where men are beaten and bloodied for trying to maintain order. And where a day care-turned-drug front killed a 1-year-old child with fentanyl.
"You could be forgiven for wanting to flee that country for the United States. Unfortunately, that country is the United States. It's the inevitable result of President Joe Biden's rhetoric and his administration's refusal to enforce the law. Day by day, Biden is turning America from a land of peace and prosperity into a land of chaos and fear."
Rubio said: "It started on the 2020 presidential campaign trail when then-candidate Biden promised to halt deportations, stop construction of the border wall, and end the Trump administration's 'zero-tolerance' policy.
"Immediately, illegal immigration spiked."
Rubio maintained things became even worse when Biden assumed office and "made his open-door rhetoric a reality."
Rubio said border communities in the U.S. are facing a crisis, along with major cities such as New York.
Rubio said the Biden administration is not prioritizing the interests of the U.S. and its people.
"Simply put, we need the president to reverse course," he said.
"Ultimately, however, it is up to the people to elect a government that aligns with their values. This is how we will make a real difference on the border and improve the lives of hardworking citizens."
