The mugshot of Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, was released Thursday after a federal judge ordered him to be moved to a jail where he can better communicate with his lawyers, The Hill reported.
The jail where Manafort spent the last month is in Warsaw, Virginia, almost 100 miles from Washington, D.C. Manafort has been charged with money laundering, bank fraud, and other violations.
New charges that claimed Manafort tried to sway the testimony of two witnesses in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe led to his bail and house arrest being revoked, the report said.
Prosecutors said he described his treatment at the first jail as "V.I.P.," and his lawyers claim his safety is at risk in the new jail, The New York Times reported.
The judge who ordered the transfer of Manafort to another prison dismissed concerns about Manafort’s safety, saying the facility knows how to handle "terrorists, spies, and traitors."
