Despite some recent miscues by Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump is not about to dump the former New York city mayor as a lawyer, The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman said.
Her comments came in a Wednesday interview on CNN’s “New Day.”
Asked if the president was pleased with Giuliani’s recent appearances, Haberman said: “Look, I think the goal overall that both Rudy Giuliani and President Trump share is sowing confusion around the case, around Michael Cohen, around Robert Mueller. . .
"So, to that end I don’t think the president is upset. I think the president has been advised by several people close to him that this weekend's media tour de force by the former mayor was not ideal.
“It took the thunder away from where the White House was feeling fairly good that Robert Mueller had said a BuzzFeed report that the president personally directed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress was inaccurate. That was seen by the White House as a win.
“It is true there are people who are encouraging him to part ways with Giuliani. That absolutely is not going to happen – certainly not any time soon. He's generally happy with the job Giuliani has done.”
The Associated Press reported Trump has grown frustrated with Giuliani, while influential outside allies are expressing reservations about him.
