Kudlow: Tlaib's $20 Minimum Wage Would Kill Millions of Jobs

By    |   Tuesday, 23 July 2019 01:39 PM EDT

Top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said the proposal by Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., to raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour would lead to millions of job losses.

Kudlow made his comments on Tuesday during an interview on "Fox & Friends."

Tlaib had suggested the wage hike at an event in Detroit on Sunday.

"It should be $20 an hour — $18 to $20 an hour at this point," she said.

Fox News noted the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives approved a $15 federal minimum wage bill last week. However, it is not expected to pass in the GOP-controlled Senate.

Kudlow said Tlaib's suggested hike would hurt small businesses.

"When you have these big increases in the national federal minimum wage, yes, some wages go up for some set number of millions of workers, but we also lose millions of jobs because a lot of these small businesses can't afford it," he said.

Kudlow maintained the "remedy for minimum wage" is to keep the "across-the-board" economic boom going.

"We can have unlimited minimum wage through private-sector prosperity," he said.
