Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., is being accused of mistreating former staffers — charges that threatened to upend her expected White House bid Sunday.

According to two news reports, eight former staffers anonymously accused Klobuchar of running “a workplace controlled by fear, anger, and shame.”

The staffers claimed Klobuchar’s demeanor “regularly left employees in tears,” charging she’d yell at the staff and, at times, toss objects — including a binder that hit someone — and throw around papers.

“I cried. I cried, like, all the time,” one unnamed staffer told BuzzFeed News.

Four unnamed staffers said going public about Klobuchar’s character just before her 2020 bid announcement is important.

“I’ve always been taught that your true character shows in how you treat those with less power than you, especially behind closed doors,” a former staffer told BuzzFeed News. “The way Sen. Klobuchar behaves in private with her staff is very different than when she’s in the public eye, and that kind of cruelty shouldn’t be acceptable for anyone.”

The Huffington Post reported three staffers withdrew from consideration to lead Klobuchar’s campaign, in part because of her work history with staff.

A campaign spokesperson denied the allegations and told BuzzFeed News the Senator “loves her staff.”

“I doubt it will [affect voters] much,” one unnamed Democratic consultant told Politico. “But does it mar her rollout and her getting support from important people, like donors and elected officials? Yes. And in the long run, that’s a problem with getting voters.”
