John Kelly, the former chief of staff for President Donald Trump, says he would have worked for Hillary Clinton if she won the election and asked for his help, NBC News is reporting.
“If Hillary Clinton had called me, I would have done it,” Kelly said.
He admitted serving as chief of staff was “the least enjoyable job I’ve ever had. But it was the most important job I’ve ever had.”
He made his comments during an appearance Wednesday at Duke University.
The New York Times said Kelly would not address reports that Trump reportedly intervened to get top-secret security clearances for his daughter, Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
“I couldn’t — and I’m not dodging — I couldn’t comment on that for a couple of reasons,” Kelly said. He cited clearances among the things that he could not discuss, and that conversations with the president “at that level would certainly” be kept confidential under executive privilege.
