President Barack Obama is "moving in the right direction" with his decision to send 300 U.S. troops to Iraq to train and advise Iraqi forces, Republican political strategist Karl Rove said.
"We are late, and we may be too small. But, we're moving in the right direction," Rove, who served as deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" on Friday.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, an offshoot of al-Qaida, has seized large parts of Iraq. Rove said the question is if Obama would "back this up with action" and launch air attacks against enemy combatants.
"If they identify the leadership of al-Qaida and where they are, are they going to strike them? We'll know soon," he said.
Should the military locate al-Qaida forces in Syria, Rove said it was likely the United States would launch air attacks there, as well.
