Harris Campaign Vetting Potential Running Mates

By    |   Tuesday, 23 July 2024 10:52 AM EDT

Democrats have begun the process of finding a running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive nominee for president.

According to CNN, lawyers for the party have begun the vetting process, with siloed teams established for leading prospective candidates.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper are among those asked to provide information about finances, family histories, and other details, according to CNN. Ten people are being vetted, CNN reported.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder's law firm is running the vetting process, CNN said.

Cooper and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear on Monday appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," in hope that Harris was watching, CNN reported.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, another potential candidate, appeared on "Morning Joe" on Tuesday and said he hasn't received any vetting materials. Asked if he was interested in the job, Pritzker said he would be out on the campaign trail fighting for Democrats to win.

"I love being the governor of the state of Illinois," Pritzker said. "And I'm very interested in making sure that Kamala Harris becomes the next president of the United States."

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz also appeared on "Morning Joe" on Tuesday, though he has not been mentioned as a potential running mate. He attacked former President Donald Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, calling them "robber barons."
