Republican Rep. Justin Amash did not rule out a bid for the presidency in 2020 as a libertarian, but told CNN’s “State of the Union" on Sunday that it is currently "not on his radar."

The Michigan congressman did stress, however, that" it is important that we have someone in there who is presenting a vision for America that is different from what these two parties are presenting."

He bemoaned that "Right now, we have a wild amount of partisan rhetoric on both sides and Congress is totally broken. We can't debate things in a clear way anymore. Everything has become, 'Do you like President Trump or do you not like President Trump?'"

Amash, who is the chairman of the House Liberty Caucus, was elected as part of the tea party wave in 2010 and did not endorse Donald Trump for president in the last election, according to Politico. He is also one of 13 Republicans in the House who voted against the president's national emergency declaration on the border wall.

Amash said the country needs “to return to basic American principles, talk about what we have in common as a people, because I believe we have a lot in common as Americans, and try to move forward together, rather than fighting each other all the time."
