Obama Nominates New Libya Ambassador

By    |   Wednesday, 13 March 2013 02:41 PM EDT

President Barack Obama has nominated Deborah K. Jones to lead the U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya.

She will replace former Ambassador Chris Stevens, who was killed along with three other Americans when terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11 last year.

Jones, a career diplomat with the State Department, is currently a Scholar-in-Residence at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. From 2008-2011 she was ambassador to Kuwait.

Obama also nominated James Knight as ambassador to Chad.

“It gives me great confidence that such dedicated and capable individuals have agreed to join this administration to serve the American people,” Obama said in making the announcements. “I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come.”
