Rep. Ratcliffe: Dems Paid 'Heavy Price' by 'Dragging In' Mueller

By    |   Thursday, 25 July 2019 10:54 AM EDT

President Donald Trump is the "big winner" following former special counsel Robert Mueller's Capitol Hill testimony, because now "impeachment is dead," Rep. John Ratcliffe, one of the lawmakers who questioned Mueller, said Thursday.

"You know, sometimes the book is better than the movie, the Texas Republican, a member of the House Judiciary, said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "The Democrats paid a heavy price by dragging (in) a reluctant Robert Mueller, who was not familiar with the terms of his own report, and that was on display very clearly and at times, very painfully, before the American people yesterday."

Mueller's halting, quiet performance also showed that Democrats on the team investigating Trump and Russian interference, ran the investigation, Ratcliffe said.

"It showed what a lot of us have intimated, which is that the Mueller report was not written by Bob Mueller and that a lot of the findings and conclusions that were in there were written by a bunch of lawyers that didn't like Donald Trump," said Ratcliffe. "(They) had supported and in some cases represented Hillary Clinton."

Show co-host Brian Kilmeade also noted that there are many people who have been caught up in the investigation, including former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort being sentenced to prison and retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn being "ruined financially."

"Everything that came before and culminated yesterday was started because his predecessor Jim Comey leaked confidential conversations with the president to start to create the Mueller investigation," said Ratcliffe. "Mishandling classified information is still a violation of the Espionage Act. It started with Hillary Clinton and it has continued without accountability."
