Dr. John McLaughlin is dead at the age of 89, "The McLaughlin Group" announced on its official Facebook page Tuesday.
McLaughlin’s forceful hosting style was famously parodied by Dana Carvey on "Saturday Night Live."
He had missed his first show in 34 years Sunday because of an illness, as The Wrap reported.
"As the panel’s recent absences attest, I am under the weather," he said in a statement at the beginning of Sunday’s episode. "The final issue of this episode has my voice, but please forgive me for its weaker than usual quality. Yet my spirit is strong and my dedication to this show remains absolute!"
