Joe Scarborough said on his MSNBC “Morning Joe” program on Wednesday that he does not think President Donald Trump will run for another term, and Democratic candidates should be expecting instead to go up against UN Ambassador Nikki Haley in 2020.

Scarborough's comment came as a panel of experts talked about the wide range of Democratic potential candidates considering a bid for the White House in the next presidential election.

The discussion centered around the type of candidate who would be the best counter to Trump and which ideological wing of the Democratic Party would win out in the rough and tumble of the primaries.

There was also a notion that, while it was frustrating for many Democratic supporters that there will apparently be little unity in which path is best suited to defeat Trump, it was better that there be a real battle within the party and not a “coronation” among party elites as there was in 2016 deciding beforehand that Hillary Clinton would be the candidate.

In the middle of the discussion, Scarborough said, “If I were actually war gaming this, I would tell everyone who is thinking about running, ‘Plan your campaign against Donald Trump, but expect to be running against Nikki Haley,’” who has announced she is resigning as UN ambassador at the end of the year.

As others on the panel insisted that Trump would run in 2020 even if he faces impeachment and would stay on until the bitter end, Scarborough emphasized that he does not think Trump is going to run again.
