With the midterm elections approaching, President Joe Biden called former President Donald Trump "the defeated former president of the United States," The Hill reported.

During a virtual address Monday to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives conference, Biden criticized Trump's patriotism.

"You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-cop," Biden said. "You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-democracy. You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-American."

On Tuesday, Biden directed a shot at Trump on Twitter.

"Call me old fashioned, but I don't think inciting a mob that attacks a police officer is 'respect for the law,'" Biden tweeted.

After ending his COVID-19 isolation this week, Biden appeared to take another shot at Trump when he noted the former president, who got COVID-19 before vaccines were available, had to be "helicoptered" to Walter Reed hospital.

Earlier this month, Biden said he would welcome an election rematch with Trump in 2024.

"I'm not predicting it, but I would not be disappointed," Biden told a local Israeli TV outlet after being asked a potential 2020 rematch.

However, a recent CNN poll found 75% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters want the party to nominate someone else.

"He truly believes he's the only one who can win," one Biden ally told The Hill. "And I believe he's 100% correct."

With recent polls showing Republicans are favored to regain control of the House in the midterm elections, Biden is expected to continue his verbal attack on Trump.

"Why not compare and contrast the person who truly is the face of the Republican Party?" Democrat strategist Rodell Mollineau told The Hill. "Donald Trump is the face of the opposition, and it's smart to remind Americans who he is."

Another Democrat strategist said "it's the perfect time" for Biden to increase his criticisms of the former president.

"He's gotten everything he can for now from Senate Republicans and Trump is making noise about announcing soon, so it's the perfect time to drop the gloves and get back up in their faces," strategist Eddie Vale told The Hill.

"And then it's also perfectly timed up on top of that with the Jan. 6 hearing putting the spotlight on Trump's insurrection to draw the direct contact between his danger and demagoguery and Biden's growing-rapidly-by-the-day achievements."
