Late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel on Sunday offered a truce to Sean Hannity after several days of trading barbs with the Fox News host and apologized for making fun of First Lady Melania Trump.
"While I did admit I did have fun with our back and forth, after some thought, I realize that the level of vitriol from all sides (mine and me included) does nothing good for anyone and, in fact, is harmful to our country," he tweeted.
The feud started when Kimmel made a joke last Monday about Melania Trump's accent. Hannity called Kimmel a "despicable disgrace," among other choice words, and Kimmel fired back during his show. The two traded jabs on Twitter, with Hannity calling Kimmel a racist, "Harvey Weinstein Jr.," and a pervert.
Kimmel then made a gay sexual innuendo referring to Hannity's admiration for President Donald Trump.
"By lampooning Sean Hannity's deference to the President, I most certainly did not intend to belittle or upset members of the gay community and to those who took offense, I apologize. I will take Sean Hannity at his word that he was genuinely offended by what I believed and still believe to be a harmless and silly aside referencing our First Lady's accent," said Kimmel.
Hannity on Twitter said he would "have a full and comprehensive response" Monday on his show at 9 p.m.
