The departures of Andrew Weissmann and Zainab Ahmad, two key members of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation team, may be a sign that his report is coming out soon, Rep. Jim Jordan, a ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, said Tuesday.
"We all kind of suspect that it is," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "Outnumbered Overtime" anchor Harris Faulkner. "It also might be a letter that [Rep. Mark] Meadows and I sent to Attorney General [William] Barr on March 1."
Jordan said the letter pointed out that Weissmann and Ahmad met with former Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr, the husband of Fusion GPS official Nellie Ohr, before the 2016 election. At that time, information was conveyed to both of them that Christopher Steele, the author of a salacious dossier on then-candidate Donald Trump, was desperate to stop his election, he added.
Jordan acknowledged that the two may be leaving just because the investigation is nearly over, but "we'll have to wait and see."
The news means the Justice Department knew about the bias, but didn't give it to the Foreign Intelligence and Surveillance Act [FISA] court the first time it went to get a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign, said Jordan.
"That is problematic," he said. "We think that is a potential conflict."
