President Donald Trump came to Washington to "shake it up," but House Republicans have not shown the same intensity, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said, explaining why he is running for House Minority Leader in elections being held Wednesday.
"Did we replace Obamacare?" Jordan told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "Did we reform welfare, and secure the border, and build a border security wall?"
Such failures were likely the reason Republicans lost so many races, by a slim margin, in the midterm elections, Jordan said.
"If I'm given a chance to lead, I'll work on one thing: Doing what we told American people we were going to do," he added. "I think when you fail to reach a goal in life there's fundamental things and basic questions you have to ask."
However, current Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., also is hoping to stay in a leadership role, and also is running for the minority leader spot.
Jordan, who is a founding leader of the House Freedom Caucus, said the group is "famous" for "fighting for what Americans sent us here to fight for."
"We have to be prepared with the right attitude to come to this town to fight every single minute of every single day defending the truth," he said, as Democratic leaders like Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., are "attacking everybody."
Republicans should focus on the single biggest promise made in 2011, border security, Jordan said, and that could be done through a continuing resolution.
