Ivanka Trump is not one of the dozens of people asked to hand over documents for a Democratic-led investigation of her father — but she might be, Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., said Monday.

Nadler was on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront" and said the investigation into President Donald Trump's background he kicked off this week as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is part of Congress' job of overseeing the executive branch's work.

"I'm not going to answer why any particular person is or isn't on it," Nadler said. "We think that anybody on it has information of use to the committee in establishing things. We may add other people."

Ivanka Trump, who works in the West Wing as a senior adviser, could eventually be added to Nadler's probe.

"There is gonna be more requests, there may or may not be more people," he said, adding that "quite conceivably," Ivanka Trump could be asked to fork over documents down the road.

"We're simply exercising our oversight jurisdiction and [President Trump] doesn't understand it or he's not willing to concede to Congress that we have an oversight jurisdiction," Nadler said.

Nadler's investigation is beginning as, according to recent reports, special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into whether the Trump campaign conspired with the Russians to win the 2016 election is winding down.
