Ex-Congressman Jason Chaffetz Monday slammed former President Barack Obama for his accusations that Republicans are embracing "wild conspiracy theories" such as those "surrounding Benghazi," saying the president is being too dismissive of the deadly attack that happened during his watch.
"It is offensive to the men and women who served in Libya, who served this country and who serve in the United States military, because that president -- President Obama -- failed to act," Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor and former Utah congressman, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
Obama, he continued, is "fundamentally and totally and fully wrong. Shame on the president for saying that."
Chaffetz, as chairman of the House Oversight Committee from 2015 to 2017, led investigations into the Benghazi attack, which claimed four lives.
"Remember it was President Obama that took the United States into war with Libya, and in an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News, President Obama said the worst mistake of his presidency was dealing with the aftermath of Libya," said Chaffetz.
"There were four Americans that were killed, and President Obama on his watch refused to send anybody into Benghazi to go help those people."
Obama made the remarks during a speech in Illinois, while targeting President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
