Israel Warns of Terror Threats at Paris Olympics

By    |   Tuesday, 23 July 2024 04:29 PM EDT

Israel's National Security Council issued a travel warning to citizens planning to visit Paris for the 2024 Olympics, highlighting potential terrorist threats and possible protests targeting Israeli athletes, Breitbart reported.

The warning came after the release of a threatening video by a Palestinian terrorist group, circulated online, that includes a direct threat to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Dr. Eli David, co-founder of "Deep Instinct," shared a post on X on Tuesday, emphasizing the seriousness of the threat: "Remember we said 'the West is next'? Today Hxmas releases a video threatening that 'rivers of blood will flow through the streets of Paris' at the Olympic Games. Take them seriously. They mean what they say (as we learned the hard way)."

The official warning from the NSC, delivered on Monday, outlined several key points:

1. Olympic dates: The Olympic Games will run from July 26 to Aug. 11, with the Paralympic Games following from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.

 2. Target for terrorism: Major international events like the Olympics are seen as prime targets for terrorist groups due to the extensive media coverage a successful attack would generate. Recently, Global Jihad organizations, especially the Islamic State, have been advocating for attacks against various targets during the Olympics, including Israeli and Jewish participants.

3. Recent arrests: Local security forces have detained several individuals planning attacks on the Olympics:

  • On April 25, a 16-year-old supporter of the Islamic State was arrested for planning to detonate an explosive belt during the Games.
  • On May 31, an 18-year-old Chechen Islamic State militant was apprehended for planning an attack during the Olympics.

4. Ongoing threats: Various terrorist organizations, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and other Shiite groups, have been actively plotting attacks against Israelis and Jews within Israel and abroad. Since the Swords of Iron War began, numerous attempted attacks have been thwarted. These groups are believed to be planning further attacks targeting the Olympics.

5. Protests and demonstrations: The NSC warns of likely demonstrations and protests during the Games, which could escalate into violent confrontations. Israeli citizens are advised to avoid areas of friction.

6. Security measures: French security forces are preparing extensively to secure the Olympics and its participants. Despite these preparations, a Level 2 travel alert remains in place for France and other European countries, urging travelers to take increased precautions.

7. Real-time updates: Israelis visiting France for the Games can download the Home Front Command application for real-time updates and alerts from the NSC on Apple and Android devices.

8. Travel advisory resources: The NSC website provides additional information and updates, and the NSC can be contacted directly for further inquiries.

Israeli athletes were targeted by Palestinian terrorists in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany; 11 Israeli athletes were murdered and one German police officer was killed.

Despite the heightened threat, Israeli President Isaac Herzog is set to lead the Israeli delegation in Paris.
