NEW YORK (AP) — The lawyer for the leader of the International Monetary Fund says his client denies he attempted to rape a New York City hotel maid.
The 32-year-old maid told authorities that 62-year-old Dominique Strauss-Kahn attacked her in his suite at the luxury Sofitel hotel not far from Manhattan's Times Square on Saturday afternoon. He was later yanked from an airplane, moments before it was to depart for Paris.
His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, tells The Associated Press he expects Strauss-Kahn to be arraigned Sunday afternoon. Brafman says Strauss-Kahn "denies all the charges against him" and will plead not guilty.
The arrest could completely shake up the race for France's president next year, because Strauss-Kahn was thought to be a serious challenger to Nicolas Sarkozy.
