The House Freedom Caucus on Tuesday opposed the budget deal backed by President Donald Trump, calling the raising of spending caps by $320 billion "unsustainable" and irresponsible.

"Our country is undeniably headed down a path of fiscal insolvency and rapidly approaching $23 trillion in debt," the group of 31 conservative and libertarian Republicans said in a statement per The Hill.

"This is completely unsustainable, and we owe taxpayers and future generations better. We should be working together on a bipartisan basis to cut spending and balance our budget — or, at bare minimum, holding to the existing spending caps to prevent a significant problem from becoming even worse."

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, also spearheaded a letter to Trump opposing the agreement.

"You should veto this bill because it is fiscally irresponsible," a group of conservative lawmakers wrote according to Politico. "It blows well beyond what was intended with the 2011 [Budget Control Act] caps. Furthermore, it continues spending hundreds of billions more than what we take in a year and does not put our nation on a path toward a balanced budget."

The House is expected to vote on the budget deal Thursday.

The White House and congressional negotiators reached a deal on the two-year budget Monday. It allows the U.S. government to keep borrowing and raises spending by $320 billion over existing caps.

"All sides should go back to the drawing board and work around the clock, canceling recess if necessary, on a responsible budget agreement that serves American taxpayers better — not a $323 billion spending frenzy with no serious offsets."
