Gidley: White House Hasn't Seen Compromise Bill

By    |   Tuesday, 12 February 2019 12:28 PM EST

The White House has not yet seen the congressional compromise bill to keep the government funded, deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said Tuesday.

"I'm not really to focus on what could be in there," Gidley told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "I would like to focus on what is actually in there, and we haven't seen that yet. We've heard some rumors and we've heard some reports. We've seen some reporting on exactly what could or could not be in there. It doesn't jibe with what we're hearing. It is not consistent with what we're hearing coming out of the conference committee."

So far, he said, the White House has only heard about proposals that included letting convicted criminals out of jail, and that is "completely unacceptable."

"If they are going to stand by that particular proposal that ICE can't arrest criminals and the ones that are in there in overflow have to be released, we have another situation on our hands," said Gidley. "The only thing that's missing from the Democrat proposal, if that's still in there, is a proposal that tells exactly which districts of their own they would like for us to put those criminals into."

President Donald Trump wants what Americans want, and that is safety and security, said Gidley.

Gidley also on Tuesday slammed California Gov. Gavin Newsom's decision to pull National Guard troops from the state's border, while calling the president's claims of a crisis on the border "manufactured."

"It is ridiculous," said Gidley. "The Department of Homeland Security requested the assistance of these troops to go down to the border because we need the help and protection."
