Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "got away with murder" during last week's Democratic presidential debate, says former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

"Bernie Sanders virtually applauded Hillary for destroying her emails," Guiliani said Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.

Story continues below. "I have a list … of 13 criminal statutes that Hillary allegedly violated with her conduct," the former federal prosecutor told host John Catsimatidis. "This was like a love-fest."

Clinton is scheduled to testify before the Benghazi Select Committee on Thursday.

Turning to the GOP race, Giuliani said front-runner Donald Trump is a close personal friend.

"And from the very beginning I have said, 'Do not take him lightly,'" he said.

Trump is one of the three in the 15-candidate GOP field he gives a chance of making it to the White House, the former mayor said.

"I would still put [former Florida Gov. Jeb] Bush there … I have a high regard for him," he said. "And I’m beginning to see kind of a surge for [Florida Sen. Marco Rubio … I wouldn’t be so uncomfortable with Ben Carson in the White House."
