Hannity: Republicans Duped by Democrats on Immigration

By    |   Thursday, 20 June 2013 01:14 PM EDT

Conservative talk show host Sean Hannity says Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and fellow Republicans have been duped by Democrats into supporting the immigration reform bill on false promises of ensuring border security.

"I do believe that [Rubio] had the best of intentions when he started working on this issue. But I also told him during interviews early on that I do not trust Democrats like [New York Sen.] Chuck Schumer and [Illinois Sen.] Dick Durbin," Hannity wrote Wednesday on his website.

Hannity said the bill does not adequately ensure the borders will be secure before the process begins for granting legal status to undocumented immigrants, a concern raised by numerous Republican lawmakers in the last few months.

"Democrats have a history of not being trustworthy. My prediction seems to have become a reality. Democrats are basically using this as a political issue, not for the sake of solving an important problem but to boost future election chances by making this a wedge issue for 2014," Hannity said.

"We do so many dumb things in this country, and I'm sick of Republicans continuously rolling over and being bamboozled by Democrats, failing to learn from mistakes in the past."
