Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said it is still way too early to declare anyone the Republican presidential nominee in a statement she released on Sunday after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he is suspending his campaign, leaving only Haley and former president Donald Trump in the race.
"So far, only one state has voted," Haley said in the statement. "Half of its votes went to Donald Trump, and half did not. We're not a country of coronations. Voters deserve a say in whether we go down the road of Trump and [President Joe] Biden again, or we go down a new conservative road. New Hampshire voters will have their say on Tuesday."
Haley, a former U.N. ambassador, reiterated that "when I'm president, I will do everything in my power to show them they made the right decision."
She also praised DeSantis in her statement, declaring that he "has been a good governor, and I wish him well."
