Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Wednesday said ex-Rep. Beto O'Rourke, D-Texas, will not confiscate his guns.

O'Rourke, during the recent Democratic debate said, "hell yes, we're gonna take your AR-15" during a discussion on stricter gun laws.

"I am, if it's a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield," he said when he was asked if he would implement mandatory buybacks for assault-style weapon.

"So many other people were shot by that AR-15 in Odessa, there weren't enough ambulances to get to them in time. Hell yes, we're going to take away your AR-15, your AK-47. We're not going to allow it to be used against a fellow American anymore."

Manchin, of West Virginia, of the pledge, told The Wall Street Journal:

"Beto's one human being. He gave his own opinion, OK? I think it was very harmful to make it look like all the Democrats. I can tell you one thing: Beto O'Rourke's not taking my guns away from me. You tell Beto that OK?"

Manchin said it was "very harmful" to the Democratic Party for O'Rourke to make it look as though Democrats wanted to seize firearms purchased lawfully.
