Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, is optimistic the organization’s Republican-approved pledge not to raise taxes will remain regardless of who wins the White House.
Norquist, pointing to the 236 House Republicans and 40 Senate Republicans who support the pledge, said their backing is key in reforming government.
“The pledge is what allows you to get reform in government, like the [Sen. Paul] Ryan plan,” he said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program.

“It means we’re going to have to reform government, make all the decisions that Obama hasn’t made to reduce the cost and scope of government and reform government so that it works.”
President Barack Obama is overseeing the “lousiest recovery since World War II,” and he knows it, Norquist charged.
“If you’re Obama, any conversation . . . [is] please, let’s not talk about [it], please, do something other than look at what Obama has done for four years,” he said.
