Greta Van Susteren said Saturday that the sexual harassment scandal engulfing powerhouse Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein differed from those involving former Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes and longtime host Bill O'Reilly.
"See below from NY TIMES where it says Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment was 'worst kept secret,'" the former cable TV show host said in a Facebook post.
"People knew about it or heard about it who were not even victims of it.
"Fox News sexual [harassment] was not known to those not involved," Van Susteren said. "It was a very effectively kept secret.
"When the news broke in July 2016 all those not involved were stunned (especially those of us who worked 200 miles away from headquarters in D.C.)."
The New York Times reported Thursday that Weinstein had reached at least eight legal settlements with women over alleged harassment.
"It wasn’t a secret to the inner circle," the Times quoted a former assistant to Weinstein's brother and longtime partner, Bob, as saying.
The former assistant, Kathy DeClesis, supervised a young woman who left the company after an encounter with Harvey Weinstein and later received a settlement, according to the report.
Weinstein, 65, apologized in a statement Thursday and said he would take a leave of absence.
The Weinstein Co.'s remaining board of directors said Friday that his leave would be indefinite, and his future employment was dependent on his actions and the results of an independent investigation.
In the Fox News scandals, Ailes quit in July 2016 after former anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and discrimination.
Though he denied the allegations, Ailes left with a $40 million payout.
He died in May after a fall in the bathroom in Florida home. Ailes was 77.
O'Reilly, whose long-running "O'Reilly Factor" anchored Fox News' evening line-up, was fired in April after the Times reported that five women had received payouts totaling $13 million to settle sexual-harassment allegations.
O'Reilly said he settled to spare his family.
Van Susteren left Fox News in September 2016 after 14 years, saying that "Fox has not felt like home to me for a few years."
She had a run of less than six months at MSNBC that ended in June.
Van Susteren came under fire for her Facebook post Saturday, but held her own against critics.
"I'm trying to understand your point, Greta Van Susteren," poster David Kroening said. "Are you saying that one is worse [than the] other?"
"I am stating facts," Van Susteren responded. "That’s it. You reach your own judgment."
