Author and former cable news anchor Greta Van Susteren told Newsmax TV she supports the First Amendment but there are exceptions to it, particularly around social media.
During a wide-ranging interview with John Bachman, Van Susteren spoke about the impact social media has on society and how it has changed the media landscape.

"I'm big on the First Amendment," she said, before explaining how she represented protesters in front of the White House in the early part of her legal career. "I'm big on the First Amendment, but it is not absolute. You can't yell falsely "fire!" in a crowded theater . . . so the First Amendment does have some limitations and there's sort of different ways to clean up Twitter."
Van Susteren admitted that social media is here to stay, but it does need some reforms.
"We ought to at least try to do something to try to fix it," she said, referencing some of the hate speech that occurs on a daily basis on social media platforms.
Van Susteren is the author of "Everything You Need to Know About Social Media Without Having to Call a Kid."
Now that she no longer works for MSNBC, CNN, or Fox News, Van Susteren said she spends a lot of her time using social media platforms like Facebook Live to speak directly to people.
"I was just in Haiti and I was just in Bangladesh. I did live reports from Bangladesh to my Facebook page, from Haiti to my Facebook page," she noted. "I was live on the air halfway across the world and I could actually communicate to people. Imagine doing that.
"In the old days, you had to write your story and then you have to send it back, it'd probably take a week to hit the newspapers here in the United States. But what is it, it's so immediate. It lets people see things for themselves."
