GOP leaders have sought to blunt calls for a government shutdown. Minority Whip Eric Cantor told The Wall Street Journal that he opposes a shutdown, saying Republicans have no desire to be viewed as a pack of “yahoos.”

Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas.
