Giuliani to Voters: Pick 'Mr. Competent' Over 'Mr. Cool' This Time

By    |   Wednesday, 29 August 2012 05:40 PM EDT

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said voters need to choose  "competence" over "cool" when deciding who they want to be president in November, Yahoo's The Ticket reports.

Giuliani on Wednesday stopped to chat with reporters at the Republican National Convention. He told reporters that voters "made a big mistake" by electing President Barack Obama in 2008.

"If I had to select somebody to straighten out my business, I wouldn't necessarily select the cool guy, I'd select the competent guy," Giuliani said in response to a question about Mitt Romney's personal appeal to voters. "And I think maybe we made a big mistake last time. We selected Mr. Cool and we've had the worst unemployment that we've had since the Great Depression. Maybe this time if we select Mr. Competent, we'll be a lot better off."

Giuliani was also asked about how it would play with the public that the RNC was happening at the same time as hurricane hit Louisiana.

"I think they are showing sensitivity," he said. "If there was somebody who needed a triple bypass operation you wouldn't not do it because there's a hurricane going on someplace else. The fact is, this country needs reform, it needs change. This is the time that's been assigned for this convention. What is happening here is not interfering in any way in what's going on there."
