A Republican candidate for governor of Georgia announced Tuesday that he will drive a "deportation bus" to protest sanctuary cities, Talking Points Memo reports.
State Sen. Michael Williams, who promotes himself as the "most outspoken anti-illegal candidate" in Georgia’s history, wants to stop at each of the state’s "dangerous sanctuary cities," according to his campaign.
"Through his bus tour of sanctuary cities, William will expose how dangerous illegal aliens ruin local economies, cost American jobs, increase healthcare costs and lower education standards," his campaign said in a statement, which went on to list his past position as the Georgia co-chair for President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.
"We’re going to implement my 287(g) deportation plan that’s going to fill this bus with illegals and send back to where they came from," Williams says in a video announcing the tour.
"We’re not just going to track them and watch them roam around the state, we’re going to put them on this bus and send them home," he continues.
"Williams champions implementing the federal 287(g) deportation program in every Georgia county to deputize officers as ICE agents," the campaign’s statement reads. "His anti-illegal alien program would expedite the deportation process and send a clear message to illegal communities that they are not welcomed in Georgia."
The state senator’s campaign goes on to attack one of his primary opponents, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, for his "failed leadership" concerning "illegal immigration."
According to recent polling from Georgia’s Atlantic Journal-Constitution, Williams lags far behind Cagle, the clear frontrunner, as well as Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp and former state Sen. Hunter Hill, with a large number of voters undecided.
